How does the drug work?
The antidepressant effect of metaxalone is associated with an increase in neurotransmitter activity in the central nervous system. Metaxoline and its main metabolite O-desmethylvenlafaxine (ODV) are potent inhibitors of serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake and weakly inhibit dopamine reuptake by neurons. Metaxalone and EFA equally effectively affect the reuptake of neurotransmitters.
How to use?
Taken inside. The recommended starting dose is 75 mg in 2 doses (37.5 mg 2 times / day) daily. If after several weeks of treatment there is no significant improvement, the daily dose can be increased to 150 mg (75 mg 2 times / day). In severe depression or other conditions requiring inpatient treatment, you can immediately use 150 mg in 2 divided doses (75 mg 2 times / day). Thereafter, the daily dose can be increased by 75 mg every 2-3 days until the desired therapeutic effect is achieved. The maximum dose is 375 mg / day.
Side effects: loss of appetite, constipation, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, hepatitis, dizziness, insomnia, arterial hypertension, ejaculation disorder, sweating, skin rash, weakness, fatigue.
