Imuran is an immunosuppressive drug. How does the drug work?
It has an immunosuppressive and cytostatic effect. Being involved in metabolic reactions, it disrupts the synthesis of nucleic acids. Compared with mercaptopurine, it has a more pronounced immunosuppressive effect with less cytostatic activity. In high doses (10 mg/kg) it inhibits the function of the bone marrow, suppresses the proliferation of granulocytes, and causes leukopenia.
How to take and dosage.
Set individually, taking into account the indications, the severity of the course of the disease, the dosing regimen of simultaneously prescribed drugs and hematological tolerance. The daily dose varies from 1 mg/kg to 5 mg/kg. The treatment is long.
Side effect: nausea, vomiting, anorexia, dizziness, headache, acute renal failure.
Contraindications: Inhibition of hematopoiesis, kidney disease, pregnancy, breastfeeding period, hypersensitivity.
